Personal Comments:
"For me the greatest part of teaching is when students have that ah-ha moment in their learning."
Testimonial from Amie L., Director, Sylvan Learning Center: "[Angi] demonstrated a high level of teaching quality that is only present with a much experienced teacher. Her expertise is in identifying the needs of individual students and helping them strengthen their academic skills. I greatly valued Angela's ability to communicate with her students and teach them the skills needed and how they can use them for the future. She is able to make learning fun and meaningful for all students. Her warm personality and creativeness is inviting to her students and they respond extremely well to her.
I highly recommend Angela ... Her experience, charisma and skills will be a great asset for anyone seeking to maximize the potential of young students."
Testimonial from Mary K., Lead Teacher, Sylvan Learning Center: "Angela was one of the most experienced and requested of all our teachers at Sylvan. The students enjoyed her tremendously for her warmth, humor, and patience. Angela always made sure to deliver the best education possible to each individual student; this required her to be extremely flexible in her teaching methods and delivery to suit each student’s learning style, which she was able to do with ease and efficiency ... she was constantly seeking to find better solutions to a student’s academic challenges.
To put it simply, Angela was one of our best teachers: one who was providing the very best educational support we could offer, and was doing so with heart, soul, and a genuine concern for the wellbeing of our students."
Angi comments on her tutoring experiences: "I have often dealt with children who do not feel that what they are learning is relevant to their lives. I have at times given them situations in which their learning can relate to everyday life.
For example, young children really do not understand why they must learn addition or subtraction. But what they do understand is wanting to buy something at the store. So I start out with numbers that are easy for them to understand and relate that to addition and subtraction.
Older students do not understand why they might need to have good study skills. Then we start talking about junior high school, what it takes to be a good student, and how hard it is to transition to high school if you do not have good study habits. In junior high, you do not have one teacher who can always be there to ask about homework.
High school students want to know why writing skills are important to learn. I tell them, if they want to go to college, they need to write a good essay to get in."
